lisa congdon – on becoming a working artist

October 1, 2014

I’m listening in, and crying to myself. Because I’ve been plugging away at a lot of the things that Lisa is talking about, and even though I’m seeing successes, some days can get discouraging. But every word she’s saying is hitting home. I’m listening and feeling encouraged – just knowing I’m not alone, and I’m not crazy having these big goals and ideas. I’ve shared with my husband before – 9.9 out of 10 people that I come in contact with on a daily basis have no idea what it’s like to be your job – to have the discipline, vision, and drive to create your income, work, and occupation. Many times they say things that can be discouraging or down right insulting. I really believe (and hope) that all of that just comes from a place of not knowing. Even though being in this place is great, it’s a constant hustle to learn more, be more, create more.

I recently purchased Lisa’s book Art, Inc, (though I grabbed mine at my local Barnes & Noble) and I’ve been inundated with deadlines since, so I haven’t had a chance to crack it open. Now, I’m even more excited. Here are Lisa’s words on what the course is about, and a link to the course Become a Working Artist on Creative Live.

Glad to see you were taking the course too! I just bought the thing so I can go back and read. The Oct 1 sessions really hit home with me. Like I totally waste tons of time in my day doing stuff that doesn’t propel me forward. Did you join the FB Group?

Ooo! I missed most of the second day’s sessions… I don’t recall hearing about the facebook group!
