Checking in with this week’s Sunday Post – each week I blog a list of links to things that have caught my around the interwebs this week! It can be anything from news, to pop culture, to a pretty color palette – it’s what inspires me for the week ahead!
30 things to blog about when you’re feeling uninspired by Rock n’ Roll Bride. I love her blog. No really. I check in several times per week via her facebook page links. I don’t have blogger burnout, but I can relate! And if you’re ever searching for something to post about, this is a great list to start with!
being a stay at home parent is a luxury for your spouse on babble. I totally feel this. Do you? I carry a lot of things because I work from home, bu we also split some house duties. Not having to worry about things like sick days for your kids? That’s HUGE.
parenting as a gen-xer: we’re the first generation of parents in the age of iEverything on The Washington Post. I feel this. And we’ve totally erred on the side of caution with our boys and tech. In fact, we have explained WHY we don’t allow unlimited access to tech to our boys, and they’re down with it.
a few things we learned from our vaccinated daughter contracting whooping cough by lindsay ross. I walk a very thing line in between two parties on this issue. We believe that vaccines really are necessary. I did careful research on what really was recommended by the CDC before diving in with our boys. We ended up going on a slower schedule and not mixing vaccines, but ultimately, they are fully vaccinated. This is a matter of educating yourself and making informed decisions.
why steve jobs didn’t let his kids have ipads on nextshark. We walk another line on this one, too. We allow access, but it’s limited. Because we want our boys to experience life, be creative, and spend time reading and imagining. This with a son who really enjoys programming. The important things is that they don’t assume that they can just grab any piece of tech in our home at any moment. They ask permission, and get an alotted amount of time each week. To earn extra time, they can do things like extra reading.
JJ Watt does something incredible for this 12 year old kid who deals with bullies on chat sports. I love football. I have a fantasy team and participate in the football pool for my husband’s office. I love the lessons that sports can teach, and how they can build you up as a person. And I love the community that can be built around the teamwork involved.

I love these posts- they provide reading for the rest of the week for me. I’ve had to live all three “choices” since my daughter was born. The easiest was working while my mom took care of our daughter. Unfortunately even though my husband is one of the humblest most egalitarian men i’ve ever met he did not like to stay home- he is more comfortable earning a wage for his work. He did not like asking for money. And frankly I don’t blame him- i didn’t like it either while I had my turn as stay at home Mom. I feel as long as both parties are in agreement and no one feels obligated or taken advantage of the arrangement of 1 parent working outside the home is a blessing and for many an unattainable luxury.
Everyone needs to ease up on parents and their financial/family choices- there is too much judgemental talk not enough problem solving and cooperation. Raising the next generation is the primary work for all living things. The choice is sacred and should be respected. I would never ask a Mom “what do you do all day?” I would ask “are you happy?” And “how do you do it?” Because it’s certainly not easy.

I’m so glad you love these posts, Michelle!
And I totally agree! No judging. And to be honest, even when I wasn’t earning my own money, I was in the budget as receiving a portion, so I didn’t ask for funds. And we made big purchase decisions together… And yes – it’s totally about making it work. That’s it.
