Marie is an artist at heart and has been crafting for many years. She enjoyed working with many different types of crafts including watercolor, paper cutting and calligraphy before she fell in love with memory keeping in 2008, which is now her biggest passion alongside photography and writing. Marie is currently on her fourth year as a member of the Get it Scrapped design team. She also designs for Citrus Twist Pocket Life Kits and writes for the French magazine Entre Artistes. Her work has been featured with Amy Tangerine and Shimelle Laine. You can find Marie on her blog, Pretty Please.
How long have you been scrapbooking?
I have been scrapbooking for about 9 years now. And just over a year ago, my first collection of scrapbooking products, Here Comes The Sun, came out under the Pretty Little Studio umbrella.
What made you decide to pursue scrapbooking and designing?
I’m someone who thrives when having deadlines, outside motivation and acknowledgment.
So when I discovered the world of design teams, I liked the idea of having deadlines and therefore an excuse to get me scrapbooking more often. (I was scrapbooking every minute I had, but with two little kids I often felt guilty to do so.) I also loved the idea of getting lovely products in exchange of doing exactly what I was doing anyway, just for fun. Finally I loved that my work was being seen, I loved the idea of inspiring others and getting feedback on my work. I’m not sure these reasons are legit and good ones to be on design teams, but somehow it did get me started. I started on one design team, then another one, and just so I was suddenly on 4 design teams, writing for an European magazine, wining scrapbooking contests, guest designing for the biggest names in the scrapbooking industry and, of course, I was gaining so much confidence in my work! Some years passed and my goals grew bigger. I wanted to design my own scrapbooking products collection! There are not many people who get to do that, but luckily and with lots of work, I finally made my dream come true!
How has your scrapbooking evolved over the years?
It took me some years to find my own style. At first I was taking classes, imitating what I was seeing online. Now I can say that I have my own style. I don’t need to see other’s people work before I can start working on a layout.
My work often consists of soft colors and a surprising design. That style is also reflected in the collections I design. I do all my images by hand with watercolor and ink. I think that when you see my pages or my products, my name is all over them!
What impact do you want your scrapbooking products to have on others?
I want people to be happy when they use my products! I want inspire people to get to work and to scrapbook their memories
Which of your business achievements are you most proud of and why?
I think that my biggest accomplishment is to have my own brand and collections. It took me 8 years to get to be a designer.
What’s the best part of being a scrapbooker?
For me, the best part about being a scrapbooker is all the memories that I collect. I not only love to spend time with my memories while making pages, but I also like to look back at my albums and I absolutely love to share them with my children. It makes me so happy when my girls take their albums out to look at them and ask me questions.
What kind of camera(s) do you own and what role does it play in your life?
I own an Olympus EM10 and an iPhone 6 and to be honest, most of my pictures are taken with my phone. I will use my Olympus very conscientiously when I want pictures with better quality, but my phone is always in my purse so that’s what gets used.
What’s your favorite thing about your bluebird chic strap?
I wanted a neutral and dark strap. This black one with just a hint of colors and subtle florals is the perfect one for me.
I love that it’s so soft and comfortable. It feels good on my neck and at the same time it’s easy to stuff in your purse.
