When I began sifting through my thoughts on what I had learned this year about gratitude, I started to notice an emerging theme. More contemplation eventually unearthed a word that helped me to describe what I felt running through my thoughts.
It’s not just something that I want to do in November, when everyone’s thinking about things that they’re thankful for. It’s become a daily exercise for me that has nothing to do with autumn or the American holiday of Thanksgiving. It’s a habit that’s taking root in the way that I live. And as I nurture it, and groom it, and prune it, I’m noticing changes in my life and myself as a person.
I finally realized that all along, I was cultivating a habit of gratitude.
