It seriously is a bit alarming how quickly this summer has passed. It is past time when I should have already cleared out this basket with last year’s old school things to make room for the books that I should have already ordered.
I feel this part of me holding back for some reason. It may be because I had this big list of fun things that I wanted to do this summer, and very little of it was done – due to things completely out of my hands, like car and air conditioning repairs.
Sigh. I guess we all have summers like that. Instead, it was a summer filled with pool days, splash parks, lots of working and meeting as a family to run at the track. All good things. So I will celebrate it for what it is – and be thankful that we homeschool and are able to be flexible to take the time to travel (or plan a beach day) during the school year!
I seriously am a pretty flexible homeschool mom. As long as your schoolwork is finished in a timely manner and you do well on your standardized tests, I’m happy (and we have been blessed to have them do VERY well so far). The boys are also asked to have daily free reading time, participate in one fitness related and one academic activity, and then I’m good. Our goal as parents is to give them the tools to pursue their interests, so they’ve also been studying computer programming in their free time – by their choice. By limiting their television and video game time, it pushes them into creative play, and other pursuits, but we’re pretty hands off. We plan family time and activities together, and then we’re just pretty much available for the boys, but not actively playing with them all the time. They’re growing so independent, and we’re seriously proud.
Now I’m rambling. That’s what happens when you’re trying to avoid ordering those books!
Have a great Monday!
