In this post, brand ambassador Addy Paramo of Simply Addy shares her tips for planning a path to your goals.
It’s the new year and many people use this time to reflect on their lives and conclude what they want to change in the upcoming year.
Many times people get motivated and set resolutions but then a few months into the year they leave it behind due to the fact that they did not set steps to conquer that resolution.
While resolutions may work for some people I find that goal setting + planning are very effective for me and have truly helped lead me to great success.
TIP #1 – Divide & Conquer
There are many different types of goals and levels of goals and I would love to share how I like to breakdown and work with my goals, with you.
- Group goals by time – First I like to divide my goals into time categories including 10-year goals, 5-year goals, 1-year goals and near-future goals.
- Group goals by category – Once I have done this I like to categorize them to help me focus on the goals separately. They can be separated by personal, career, family, home or anything that you may want to focus on and included multiple goals underneath.
- Group goals by effort – Once I do that I work on making smaller goals that will get me to my big goal.
TIP #2 – Be realistic and give yourself grace.
I believe it is important to be truly honest with ourselves and set goals that are both important to us and that are reachable.
And what if you do not reach a goal in the time frame you set for yourself? Don’t give up! Instead, set your guilt aside and make a new plan for what needs to be done to accomplish it!
TIP # 3 – Record your goals in a planner or journal.
I recommend getting a planner or journal to write down your goals. This really helps to ensure you remember them and lets you break down the tasks that need to be done in order to accomplish your goals.
Using a planner can help you plan not only your main goal but your small everyday tasks, to ensure that you are being productive and working towards your plans.
I like to use a goal board which is great for reflecting each month and accounting for changes in my plans. While there are many styles of goal maps, the one that I use is from Inkwell Press.
There are also many printables that can help you break down those goals, which can be found on Pinterest or on Etsy.
I feel the more I write down my goals and share them with others the more motivated I become in accomplishing them and I also become more accountable. Give it a try this year and I promise you will see a big difference in your goal setting and the number of accomplished goals.
And remember if you do not accomplish your goals this week or this month or this year–that’s ok, because you can always keep trying!
