When we stopped by the apple orchard on our last visit to the Midwest, the woman running the shop where they sold their goods explained that the reason I was never able to find that elusively crisp and crunchy apple was that the apples on store shelves are typically from last year. They are picked, coated in wax, and stored in cool, refrigerated areas, then shipped to stores in order to fulfill supply and demand.
She handed us fresh apples to try, and after one bite, my husband met my eye.
“I see what you mean, now.”
Scrapbook Photo Tip: While framing the apple for my photo, I made extra certain to keep the apple in focus. The camera tended to want to focus on the closest object, which was the leaf, so I made sure to refocus until I had the apple, instead.
