documenting life – tips for using instagram

February 8, 2012

I love using my iphone for photos of everyday life.

As much as I would like to be able to take out my bigger dslr camera to get “the perfect shot” all the time – a lot of times that’s just not practical. By the time I fumble around to get it out, the moment has passed and I’m left standing with nothing. Using the camera in my phone is a perfect compromise.

Captured is better than perfect.

I’d rather be able to look back and have something to remind me than to just forget the moment when it’s gone.

I’ve been using instagram for a while now to sort of short document and share some of my daily photos… it makes it easy to pull and scrapbook them later, too, since there’s already a bit of editing done as well! I love the square format that’s a throw back to so many vintage cameras.

One of the fun things I’ve noticed in other people’s instagram photos is a nice blur that can block out extra details, people or clutter. {Who doesn’t have that in plenty of their everyday photos?!} I knew it was done by using the tilt-shift feature of the app, but I hadn’t really been able to figure it out, until I found this helpful article on their site! Wha-la! It was way easier than I thought it would be.

Here’s one that shows the blur even better:

What tools do you use to document your daily life so the moments don’t slip away too quickly?
