Bluebird Chic ambassador Kim Hoover of Apple of Our Eye Photography shares her passion for embracing the creativity and imagination of children at play!
Fall is officially here!
For so many of us photographers, we really enjoy this time of year as it’s a celebration of color. For some, it’s just that reminder that winter is around the corner. We may get a few warm-ish days again, but the truth is… summer has come to an end.
It’s also my favorite time of year to send my kids outside to play. I worry a little less about the sun and those darn mosquitos. Fresh air is so good for us all. For our health, productivity, creativity and imagination.
As parents, we all know we should make time for our children to explore their creativity and imagination. Our busy schedules these days make it harder and harder to slow down and make time for just that.
Between our work schedules, school, sports, play dates, the never-ending meal planning, and running around from this place to the next, it’s no wonder we are all running around on fumes and super short attention spans by week’s end. We all seem to be a little guilty of over-planning and over-scheduling our days and weeks. We are so busy trying to be productive that we’ve almost forgotten how to relax.
It’s the sad reality of the way we live, and I feel like more now than ever is the time that we start making our downtime a priority for our families. It’s completely acceptable to schedule and block off days for nothingness.
It’s vital that we take that time to quiet the noise. To enjoy nature with our families, and allow time for creativity and imagination. Not only our kids, but for us as well. Our childhood was much, much different and I truly do miss those days of playing the woods and exploring. Nature is so important for our children to experience and we must make more time for it.
Let’s open those doors and send those children out to play. Take your cameras even, or don’t. Perhaps force yourself to have a timeout, too. Go on an adventure. Explore the woods, and Harry Potter it up my friends!
You’ll find yourself more refreshed, and more productive. I promise. Breathe in that fresh fall air… and enjoy that extra unscheduled time.
I’m Kim Hoover. Photographer, wife and mom to 3 little girls who continually inspire me to see life differently. If I’m not lying on the floor or hiding behind furniture capturing their moments, then I’m probably on the lookout for new ideas for capturing others. It’s with each one of these encounters that I get to live my dream and I am so incredibly grateful for that. You can find more of my work here: www.appleofoureye.com
