camera straps, photography inspiration

the sunday post – may 18

May 18, 2014

I’m finally getting together a graphic for this post – it’s one of my favorite posts of the week, and it’s been fun working up some ideas. I’ll probably be playing around with it a bit from week to week, though, until I settle on something I really like. So here’s what’s catching my eye around the interwebs this week!

The Sunday Post is an inspiring collection of links to things I’ve found this week:

This talk from Brene Brown on not listening to your critics. She talks a lot about creatives, and how being creative and innovative requires vulnerability. And instead of trying to ignore critics, we need to acknowledge that they’re there. So good.

Summer’s coming, and I’ve been thinking about steak. In recent years I’ve acquired a taste for a good lean steak every once in a while, but despite my years in culinary, I can never remember which steaks are good for grilling. Why? Because at the time, I hated steak. Go figure. So, in anticipation of Memorial Day grilling, I’ve been searching around for info on great cuts for grilling. I came across this article in the huffington post, and even though it’s missing the video because it’s older, it still had really great info on the cuts.

This custom wood veneer cake topper. My jaw dropped when I saw this. I’m helping my sister plan her wedding (it’s my first time being a matron/maid of honor, and it’s pretty cool). Our tastes are so similar, that we once showed up to a family gathering, and both of our guys were wearing the same shoes. True story. And we live 1500 miles apart. I’m pretty sure that says something about how much our guys are alike, and what we value in a man, too. oh my gosh.

Homemade blackberry ice cream that uses just four ingredients from call me cupcake. She uses the same method for this that I did for my faux coffee sorbet. Totally easy.

And these beautiful handmade fabric pansy and dahlia fabric flowers from flax & twine. Making the time to make these. They’re stunning, and not too hard to put together.
