This summer has been all about re-focusing, resting, learning, sorting, changing, and learning new things. I think sometimes it’s easy, when we have so many things going on, and so many parts of who we are – mom, wife, business owner, artist – to get a little lost. One day we wake up and look around and wonder how we got to the place we’re in! For the past couple of years, I’ve gotten so busy that I allowed work and business and tasks and activities and to-do lists get in the way of just being. In the middle of all of that running I wasn’t taking time for myself like I should. Sound familiar? Oh, I said the right things – but I didn’t follow up and do them.
So, this summer, I decided to change. I planned to put a box around work – set real, legit work hours. Organize home tasks like meal planning, cleaning, and decluttering. Spend time with the people I love, doing the things I (and we) love. And you know what? My work hasn’t suffered. I think that was my biggest subconscious fear was that everything would crash down if I didn’t squeeze work into every little crack that I could. Nope. My business is stronger than ever. And I’m making time for my art. And photography. And weight training at the gym. And getting those curtains and pillow shams sewn. And finally learning to play basketball. Yeah. I’ve been a fan for most of my life, but never played. This summer I’m learning – and guess what? All of those years of being a fan have paid off. I’m still a bit clumsy. I’m still learning the moves. But, I love it.
You are never too old to learn something new. And the photo above was captured last week for the #weeklyphotoinspiration challenge on instagram using my iphone 6 plus. Sometimes I use that, other times my canon 6D. The prompt was #freeasabird. I hope you’ll join in the challenge! I’ve loved taking the time to work on my artistic photography more this summer.
