It’s always so amazing to see the work of women who put their heart and soul into their businesses, hobbies, and creative endeavors. The things that catch my eye when looking for my ambassadors – women who work hard, are willing to put themselves out there for what they love and believe in, support other women, and are just, well, all around amazing! Every one of the women on the team are all of these and more, and I’m excited to share a bit about brand ambassador Emily Branch with you today!
Emily is a “mostly stay at home” wife and mom to two ridiculously wonderful kids, a part-time professional photographer and a “nap-time” Etsy store owner selling typography and photography prints of things that make her smile. Emily loves taking pictures and brings her camera everywhere. She says “I am so, so thankful that people trust these memories, their tiny toes, their little smiles, in my hands.” To see Emily’s work visit her site Everbranch Photography.
How long have you been a photographer?
I started taking pictures professionally almost two years ago. It was an impulsive decision, and a wonderful one.
What made you decide to pursue photography as a career?
When my daughter was born, investing in photography was a priority to me. We did a milestone package with our photographer, but I missed being able to document the daily moments, the little parts of our day that were so much more our life than sessions. I took a “momtog” class with a local photographer to go over the basics of shooting in manual mode. I started taking pictures and I didn’t stop.
Eventually, I had several friends approach me about taking photos FOR them, something I hadn’t even considered. I didn’t think I was enough of a photographer to do it for other people, I’d always just done it for me. With some strong encouragement and some wonderful friends, a girlfriend and I took the plunge and started Everbranch Photography one afternoon and I haven’t looked back since.
How has your photography evolved over the years?
2016 was a big year for me. I feel like I really found and became comfortable with my style. I found a really wonderful tribe of inspiring cheerleaders and worked hard this year, experimenting with light, composition, locations. I just finished my first Project 365 and it was such a game-changer!
I love lifestyle. I love taking pictures of daily life. The laughter and tears, those little things you quickly forget, the little things you’ll remember forever. How your child plays with their cars, sets up their tea parties. How you cook pancakes on Saturdays or go to the library to read books on Tuesday nights. These sessions are all about capturing your family’s story, your truth. Putting the family in your family session and putting YOU in the frame with them. My ideal sessions take place at the zoo or the Children’s Museum or in living rooms, with kids being kids.
What kind of camera(s) do you own and what role do they play in your life?
I have a Nikon D5, usually with the Sigma Art 35mm or Sigma Art 24mm. If I have my kids, I have my camera. It goes everywhere with me. I take photos of my kids on all of our daily adventures. I think my oddest “photo shoot” took place at the Lice Lounge this winter.
What’s your favorite thing about your bluebird chic strap?
I have the red Birch Bark Floral Camera Scarf. I wear a lot of greys and blacks, so it’s a fun way for me to add some color to my otherwise bland wardrobe. The red is such a gorgeous pop of color and I love the floral print. The scarf makes lugging around a heavy camera and lens so much easier because I can wear it cross body and spread it out over my shoulder. This is really helpful when I’m carrying my camera, a bag, and a toddler around.
